April 6, 2017: Check out Marcy’s October 6-8 party invitation!

A memory  for the reminiscence page:… my worst and most traumatic memory is when I didn’t make JV cheerleading in the spring of 1963. …..Getting dressed in the girls locker room afterwards,  I can still remember every detail in slow motion… like the aftermath of a car crash.

I remember walking to my mother’s car and seeing my brother ahead of me  slowly turn his head side to side in a No gesture as we approached. I knew my life was over right then.  In hindsight, it was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me… I’ve told the story countless times to my daughters and  to anyone who would listen…. it brought out my competitive side  and fierce determination.  I practiced in secret every day for a year and then made the Varsity cheerleading squad the next year. I always tell my girls… ”if you want something….yadda yadda… .

This is Me and my partner Ron from our TV reality show “The Amazing Race” Season 15 in 2009. We had just met on Match.com and he asked if I would apply to the show….I said ok what the hell …not worrying that we would ever get picked...…..but we did out of 20,000 applicants! We were the season’s token “old couple” and they picked us because 1) we were newly dating and 2) there was a contrast between us….he was a buttoned up financial district guy and I was a bohemian “downtown” girl….he is Eeyore….and I am Tigger a little "Gidget meets Larry David"….They were hoping for sparks, but we got along well (opposites attract) and are still together today living in San Francisco across the street from Golden Gate Park and 10 blocks from the ocean.

A year and a half ago, I had brain surgery with complications of hydrocephalus (water on the brain) to remove a softball sized tumor that had been growing undetected for 15 years. I was very lucky and I survived both surgeries but it has taken me a 15 months to recover. I’ve come back from depression, anxiety and PTSD. It was a 10 hour surgery and I was in intensive care for 3 weeks. Two days after the surgery they found a blood clot that was traveling up to my heart…but they did an emergency surgery at midnight and were able to stop it. I live every day with more appreciation than ever.
